Worship Leader

Reports to: Michael Callahan
Works: Sundays (Varies), 8-10 hours a week
Salary: Range of $1,000.00 – 1,200.00 a month, depending on qualifications.

Scope

The worship leader will lead the congregation by preparing them to meet with God through His Word as well as respond to the truth found in the study of God’s Word. Through a close working relationship with the pastor, he or she will develop the order of the service, choosing appropriate songs for Sunday worship and coordinating the elements needed for the day. On special occasions (e.g., Easter, Christmas, church events, etc.), he or she will provide appropriate music. This person will also work with a team of volunteers to ensure the congregation has lyrics for the songs chosen to enhance the worship experience.

Sunday Worship — 45%

• Welcome congregation, introduce guests, and open with Scripture reading.
• Lead congregation in Sunday morning worship (either guitar-drive or piano-driven).
• Blend contemporary music with hymns (50% contemporary, 50% hymns).
• Be a part of corporate worship beyond the worship through song by staying in and receiving from the message.

Sunday Morning Preparation— 50%

• Develop appropriate songs for Sunday morning worship.
• Publish and distribute order of service (run sheet) to volunteers, taking into consideration monthly events (e.g., communion, benevolence, etc.) as well as special occasions.
• Seek to tie in worship with message by connecting with the pastor or speaker and selecting fitting songs.
• Ensure that media (i.e., slides) are consistent with songs played, eliminating grammatical errors or inconsistent slides.
• Work with tech booth servants to ensure media is ready and consistent.

Special Occasions— 5%

• Occasionally lead on special church-calendar events (e.g., Christmas Eve and Good Friday).
